Can I fight for more time with my kids without going through an attorney?

My ex wife and I finalized our divorce 6 weeks ago. I have been hospitalized afterwards for 4 weeks. I may not be able to go back to my job. My doctor is talking about me going on disability. My therapist has convinced me if I am disabled I should fight for 50% phisical custody for my kids. How can I fight for more time if I can't pay for an attorney.
